Last weekend The Student Activities Board of North Carolina Central University organized a trip for the students to go and support the Marching Sound Machine at the Honda Battle Of The Bands which took place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta,Ga. We drove 6hrs to Atlanta and sold out the Holiday Inn. We spent the nights at the club, at the pre-dawns of other schools, and some people hung out in their rooms!

With S.A.B, there is NEVER a dull moment. I made them my first family when I came here to NCCU and I have always had fun.

I spent my nights with some family, and then in my room playing spades, palace and kemp with a bunch of people and some loud music. I don't like going out in the rain, I feel it takes away from my outfit lol.

The band did exceptionally well in the showcase. The other bands (Southern U,FAMU,Virginia State,Clark Atlanta,Albany State,Tuskegee and Prarie View A&M) were good as well. It wasn't a competition, but I believe if it were, we would have placed a good 2nd.

P.S...LUDACRIS WAS THERE.!!!!

Just like Hampton, What happens in ATLANTA STAYS IN ATLANTA.!!

=D

With Amplified Eagle Pride,
That.Eagle
xx

Spring Semester.!!

So just like LIFE, I have learned alot about myself.
Grew away from some people, and grew closer to other. I've met some people who know nothing about what is being done on campus, nor do they know where to go to get involved for organizations. This could be prevented if they got involved with some of the stuff on campus and got to know about the different activities held here.

Recently I was recruited to join Team Eagle. I am now a student ambassador and my job is to make YOU want to come to North Carolina Central University. I also do campus tours.

My first tour was last week when I took a family around to see the campus. Jasmine was so enthusiastic about coming to NCCU, it made me feel alot better about myself. I am definitely more confident in giving a tour alone now and more importantly, she REALLY WANTS to come to NCCU (and I helped her make that decision)-plus she reads my blogs lol! (Jasmine you are amazing, thank you!)

It is also very interesting to see all the hard work that goes behind putting on events for school. The executive board of SAB are like super-students. They really do it all.

So as you can see I try to keep myself busy, to prevent boredom and possibly trouble lol.
I intend to join more organizations but at the moment I think I'm managing my time well between academics and social life/organizations, so I'll wait until next year.!

Getting involved INCREASES school Pride.!
& I have the EAGLE.PRIDE -AMPLIFIED.

With Amplified Eagle Pride,
That.Eagle
xx

FALL BREAK.!!

Our New Score Board.!

NO CLASS TOMORROW.!!!!!

It kinda sucked that I was here at school whilst it seemed like EVERYBODY on campus left and went home for the weekend. Most people were excited to get away from home, yet they go back home every weekend. I honestly believe that I appreciate my school a lot more because I am not able to go home. My school spirit is really high too, compared to my other friends; typically the ones who go home nearly every weekend.

....True, there is nothing to do on campus, but I've met new people this weekend, and enjoyed the excellent internet connection and loud music until I feel like turning it off.!! =)

*Sidenote: This saturday NCCU won their FIRST football game of the season against Central Methodist University. We won 52-7. It was soo good to be there after we won, but a lot of people couldn't enjoy that because they went home.

ANYWAYS, I LOVE NCCU.!!!

With Amplified Eagle Pride,

That.Eagle
xx

FRESHMAN 15..........[Is Real]

Hey!!
I'm pretty sure I was expected to talk about the infamous Aggie.Eagle Classic, but I'm not. If you don't already know, I am THAT Eage, not just any Eagle and I stand out from the rest.

Before I started college my friends kept talking about this "freshman 15". I had no clue as to what it was referring to, and I definitely wasn't expecting it to be describing the amount of POUNDS freshmen are expected to gain. Now, I entitled this post "FRESHMAN 15..........[Is Real]", so that I can explain HOW I AM REALIZING that it is real. I AM NOT...I repeat...I AM NOT implying that I am 15+ pounds heavier lol.

The food here at NCCU is NOT BAD AT ALL (IT'S NOT YOUR MOTHER'S COOKING EITHER), but I had visualized sloppy food like how you see in movies, and the cafeteria lady just "plops" it on your tray; it is the FURTHEST thing from that here at NCCU.

There are five stations in the caf here at NCCU: one is for pizza and pastas, one for burgers and fries, one for salads and sandwiches, one for international cuisines (usually tacos, or stir frys or something along those lines) and then the last one is for main meals (a meat, a starch and a vegetable usually). There is a variety of selections but it does get boring, especially if you have a craving for another type of food.

I have recently fell in love with COOKOUT =).! If I can find a way to Cookout, forget the caf.
(I blame Bermuda for not having these types of places.)

Ok so on the flip side, the caf offers nutritional facts about the food they are serving such as: what it is made of, how many calories it has and how many servings it is. Also there is a nutritionist available FOR FREE and the exercise room is available FOR FREE.

So to wrap it up, FRESHMAN 15 IS REAL...and it is also PREVENTABLE. NCCU has GREAT resources available FOR FREE to help you NOT gain that 15 pounds.

Before I head out I want to thank Mr.Antonio Locus and Mr. Antoine Martin for my transportation to and from cookout! =)

With Amplified Eagle Pride,
That.Eagle
xx

Making Honest Decisions for Yourself

Heyy,
I have been so busy with tests and stuff I couldn't work in the time to blog. So here I am at 2:30am blogging. If you read my other blogs you would see that I definitely have a class at 8am tomorrow...well,today. I should be fine; I slept most of the day today.

The first few weeks of college I thought that college was pretty much like overnight high school. Go to class like you are supposed to, do your homework, study when you have a test..etc. But it's a lot more than that. You need to constantly be looking over notes to make sure you stay on top of your work. It's not hard once you get in the habit of doing things, but getting yourself into a routine may be a bit difficult.

The first place to start is with your friends. College campus is SOO diverse; there are so many different people from different backgrounds. Unlike in high school when you hung out with people who had the same interests as you, in college, you need to find friends who have the best discipline and the best study habits. These people will be the ones to motivate you when you are down to the wire and need to get that assignment done.

The next thing would be actually staying focused. Going to college is the most exciting thing because of the parties, the boys, the whole thought of being away from home, but you have to remember that there is work to be done.

There is only so much I can tell you, as you live out the college life you really learn something new every day. Whether it's academically, socially or even individually; you can really notice growth within yourself.

-So, that is the one and only blog I will write where I play Dr. Phil lol =)

With Amplified Eagle Pride,
That.Eagle
xx

.What I would want.

Heyy welcome back =)

This week I had no clue what I was going to write about. There weren't any events that were exciting enough to write about. But then I thought about it, you don't know anything about what it is like here on a day to day basis, so what's boring to me, may be interesting for you. So today I am writing off the top of my head to give you what I would want to read if I was an incoming freshman.

In Bermuda I went to school from 8am-3:30pm. Sometimes I had a class that ended at 4:15pm. Let me reiterate;I am not a morning person. Here at NCCU, my classes start at 10am. Do you have any idea how LOVELY that is?!?!?! Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I start at 10am and finish at 12:50pm. (Go to the first orientation, it has its advantages) On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have a fitness class at 8am. Hold up, before you start saying "OH HECK NO!", after that 8am class my next class isn't until 1pm. Being the professional sleeper that I am, I'm sure you can guess how I productively use my time between 9am and 12pm. =)

I have all different types of teachers. Some teachers are fun whilst others have the ability to slowly put me to sleep. Its not that bad though.

The campus is very small. I thought that I would be lost getting around to my classes, or I would be tired from walking from class to class (but hoping to lose some weight lol), but getting around is pretty comfortable. NCCU's campus is pretty much flat compared to some schools I have visited which had a shuttle bus to take you from one building to the other.

I live in Vintage Baynes Hall. It is the oldest dorm with the reputation of being "GHETTO", "OLD" and "THE HOOD". Although it has all these not so great names, we house some GREAT students who love to have fun. I was walking back to Baynes from The Richmond Complex, a.k.a "New Res", at around midnight last week and when I left there it was SOO quiet! When I got to Baynes, there were about 10 girls outside skipping double dutch and boys and girls were on the benches laughing and talking about anything. Inside in the lounge, the fellas were freestyling, crumping and there were plenty tables of spades and bid whist (an intellectual card game..like the chess of cards) going on. So even though our furniture is bolted to the ground, and our beds are low (which seem to be the only complaint from the people in the Richmond Complex), we are only in there to SLEEP!!!! Baynes keeps it poppin'!!!

Don't always listen to what you've heard. I have heard so many different stories about Baynes, but I love it over there.

So to wrap up, make sure you go to the first orientation in order to get the classes you want =) and you honestly DO NOT KNOW until you have experienced it first hand.

VB STAND UP!!!

With Amplified Eagle Pride,
That.Eagle

xx

NCCU vs HAMPTON

Heyyy what's going on?!

Today I am blogging from the road.!! I am on a bus right now on my way back to NCCU.

This weekend NCCU had their first football game against Hampton university. The student activities board organized a trip to the game and we stayed 2 nights in a hotel and visited Virgina Beach.

I have never been to a football game. In Bermuda we don't play football,we play soccer. We don't have bands either. We are just too small for all of that. So this whole experience is new to me.

We took a bus to Virginia to support NCCU, I must say the turnout was better than I had expected. We had about 7 buses: 3 for the team, 2 for the band and 2 for SAB and SGA respectively. On top of that, alumni and others rolled in. I honestly believe there were more Central supporters than Hampton supporters. The atmosphere was SOOOO hype even though I never knew where the ball was lol. Our cheerleaders were ON POINT.! And our band was even better. I lost my voice screaming and cheering on our team. I learned the NCCU chants, dances and songs (which are all hot btw - EAGLE.PRIDE).

In the end we lost the game by one touchdown, which isn't bad, but we left with our spirits HIGH.!

This was my first trip with the school and it was SOOOO much fun. I can't talk too much about it because What Happens In Hampton,Stays In Hampton =b

But I will assure you that I will be there, again, in Virginia next weekend for the game against Liberty.!

With Amplified Eagle Pride,

That.Eagle
xx

Getting Out.! && Moving In.!

So I see you checked back in =)
Soo;
I had already been through the moving out process, so I knew this would be just the same -if not easier. I think I had a somewhat different "packing for college" experience. Coming from Bermuda, I couldn't bring "totes" and things like that. I packed two suitcases of CLOTHES. My plan was to buy everything else I needed for my room out here. It worked out pretty well.

The first thing I did, before I brought anything was check out my room. I came and checked in and saw what my room looked like. My roommate wasn't here yet. My mother ended up cleaning the place top to bottom lol.(mothers.!). I left there and went shopping! We don't have a Wal*Mart in Bermuda where I am from, so I decided to check out there first. I ended up buying almost everything I needed. Thankfully, I had a tribe of family members to help me with all the bags. My roommate was there when I got back with all the stuff for my room so we pretty much moved in together. We had never spoken before besides email, and those conversations never really got far. Strangely, we had brought the same fridge, the same bath bucket, the same printer and other small little items. It took a few hours to get my room looking like how I wanted it to. I was SOO tired. And when I thought I was finished, I remembered I still had two suitcases of clothes to unpack.

My family left me and went to some amusement park. Seemed like they weren't worried too much about not having me around (lol). They left on my second day of school, but I was pretty much left on my own the day after I moved in. And I love it here!!

With amplified Eagle Pride,

That.Eagle
xx

All About That.Eagle

Hey.! Welcome to my blog spot.

My name is Ciera Fox. I was born and raised in the beautiful islands of Bermuda(441!). I graduated from Warwick Academy in 2008 and participated in an educational gap year program for the scholastic year 2008-2009.I am 19 years old and part of the Eagle Family; Class of 2013 here at NCCU.

I love to watch and play sports, but most importantly I love to listen to music and SLEEP. =) I like designing pictures in my free time and depending on the book; I like to read. I am very laid back, I make friends easily and can adapt to my surroundings without any trouble.

So I guess your first question to me would be, "WHY did I choose NCCU, out of ALL the schools in the country," right?

Since I'm an international student, I could have easily gone to England or Canada for school but I wanted an HBCU college experience. That was priority. So that cut me down to about 80 schools. I then took into consideration location and weather. I didn't want to have to take more than 2 planes to get TO school and BACK home, but I still wanted to be far enough so my parents can't get to me TOO easily. =)

I was left with about 10 schools in Georgia,Florida and North Carolina. I really wanted to go to Florida A&M, or Georgia State. After thinking logically,I knew that If I went to GAState: I would always be off campus with my family in Atlanta, I wouldn't go to class nor do any work, and I'd be more tired from partying than overnighters. I decided to look more into NCCU and FAMU and make a serious decision and after researching NCCU and realizing all the opportunities available to me; I was SOLD.

With amplified Eagle Pride,

That.Eagle

xx
